How to Make Roll on Perfume with Fragrance Oils?

by Inventory Accounting department on Nov 18, 2023
How to Make Roll on Perfume with Fragrance Oils?

In the earliest years, no degree was required to become a perfumer. Anyone with experience, skills, and continuous practice could be a perfume expert. And now, you need to be a chemist that works with all kinds of compounds.

You, too, can become a small-time perfumer, starting from home. You can begin by making roll-on perfumes with fragrance oils. Making these perfumes is not rocket engineering. It takes a few steps and a couple of ingredients.

What are Fragrance Oils?

What are Fragrance Oils

Fragrance oils are also called perfume, aromatic, and synthetic products. These are used to copy the scent of one or more than one fragrance. Usually, fragrance oils have a very strong aroma and are used mainly in a number of perfumes like colognes, lotions, soaps, candles, etc.

Fragrance oils are created by mixing several essential oils commonly derived from different botanical sources, spices, fruits, flowers, and plants. Fragrance oils come in a variety of types, like musky, woody, and floral.

A limited application of fragrance oils can last for hours since these are highly concentrated oils. Because of its longevity, people tend to create a scent of their own.

How to Choose Fragrance Oils?

Roll-on perfumes require the 3 notes: BASE, MIDDLE, and TOP. You can make the perfect roll-on perfume with fragrance oils by keeping the ratio of 30/50/20.

1. Top Notes

The top note should have a light aroma. For example, if you use citrusy fragrance oil, you’ll have to mix it with patchouli and orange, resulting in a long-lasting and unique perfume.

2. Middle Notes

The middle note should have a warm aroma. This will allow your roll-on perfume to stick for hours. You can use fragrance oils, having ylang-ylang, vanilla, sandalwood, and patchouli.

3. Base Notes

Select a fragrance oil that should have a light and sweet base note. This will make the roll-on perfume stay for a long time.

10 Steps to DIY Roll-On Perfume with Fragrance Oils

DIY Roll-On Perfumes with Fragrance Oils

Making roll-on perfumes with fragrances creates endless blends of scents. If you have that kind of nose that knows which scent goes with what fragrance, you’ll soon be making unique roll-on perfumes.

Materials Required

  1. Fragrance oils of your choice
  2. Carrier oil
  3. Roll-on bottles
  4. Funnel
  5. Labels and markers
  6. Beaker or small glass mixing bowl

Procedure of Making Roll On Perfumes

Step 1: Prepare the Work Area

Make sure the work area is crystal clear, or else the smell of the dirt will mix with the perfume you are making.

Step 2: Choose the Fragrance Blend

Select the fragrance oils you want in the roll-on perfume and consider the notes game of scents.

Step 3: Mixing Oils

Use the beaker or the glass mixing bowl. Make sure these materials are distilled and dried up before using. Next, you’ll have to use a pipette or dropper to measure the oils precisely before final mixing.

Add 3-5 drops of top notes fragrance, 5-10 drops of middle notes, and 10-15 drops of base notes. You can also change the ratios according to your desire.

Remember: Keep stirring the mixture to avoid bubbling in the blend.

Step 4: Adding Carrier Oil

If the blend is completely missed, now is the time to add carrier oil. The regular ratio of adding carrier oil to roll-on perfume with fragrance oil is 80-90% and 10-20%. You can add more or less according to your taste.

Step 5: Blend the Mix

Stir slowly and make sure there are no bubbles in the mixture. This will allow fragrance oils to blend completely with carrier oil and with other scents.

Step 6: Filling the Roll-on Bottles

Place the funnel on top of the roll-on bottles to avoid spilling. Use a dropper or gently pour the ready perfume into the bottle. Don’t fill it up completely; leave a small space for the rollerball.

Step 7: Labelling and Sealing

Ensure that the rollerball cap is tightly pressed on the bottle. This will seal the bottle and prevent any leakage. When labelling the bottle, make sure to put an exact date and the name and proportion of oils you have added.

Step 8: Let the Perfume Mature

Don’t use perfume immediately. Leave the roll-on perfume bottle in a dark place for the next 24 hours for a long-lasting effect and enchanting aroma. It will enable the fragrance to fully develop and meld.

Step 9: Testing and Adjusting

After 24 hours, apply a small patch of roll-on perfume on your skin and see if you get any allergic reaction, which is highly unlikely. If the fragrance is not up to your mark, you can always make adjustments by adding more fragrance or carrier oils.

Step 10: Storage

Keep your roll-on perfume away from the sunlight and in a cool and dry place. This will not only preserve its quality but also strengthen the fragrance over time.

This newfound information will keep you in a pleasant mood all the time. No need to buy expensive perfume gifts for your loved ones now, when you can art in perfumery at home.
