Every fragrance house has one creation that defines it. For us, it's Bakhoor Bliss — the scent visitors to our boutiques in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Ras Al Khaimah ask for by name, and the fragrance that introduces more people to The Scent Library than any other.
This is the story of how a centuries-old Emirati ritual became a modern extrait de parfum.
The Ritual Behind the Perfume
In Emirati homes, bakhoor — fragrant wood chips burned over charcoal — is how warmth is made visible. The gentle smoke rising from the mabkhara fills the space with serenity, welcomes guests, and marks moments of calm and connection. It is more than a scent; it is a ritual of hospitality passed down through generations. (New to the tradition? Read our full guide: What Is Bakhoor?)
Bakhoor Bliss — Chapter 4 in our library — was created in 2023 to translate that ritual into perfume. Not a literal smoke bomb, but the feeling of a home perfumed with bakhoor: peaceful, warm, and quietly luxurious.
Created by Two Perfumers, One Vision
The fragrance is a collaboration between our founder-perfumer Saeed Al Nuaimi and Swiss perfumer Kevin Mathys, developed using the innovative Hydrospace extraction method to capture facets of incense that traditional techniques miss. It's composed as an extrait de parfum — the richest concentration in perfumery — in an 85ml bottle.
What Bakhoor Bliss Smells Like
Top: White Pepper
Heart: Lily • Olibanum • Agarwood
Base: Cashmere • Amberwood
The opening is a soft, vibrant spice — white pepper introducing the composition the way a first wisp of smoke announces the mabkhara. The heart is where the ritual comes alive: olibanum (frankincense) and agarwood recreate the soothing aroma of burning incense, while lily threads an unexpected floral elegance through the smoke. It settles into cashmere woods and amberwood — a smooth, comforting trail that lasts through the day and into the evening.
The overall effect: incense without harshness, smoke without heaviness. Serenity, bottled.
Who Is Bakhoor Bliss For?
- Lovers of incense and smoky fragrances who want refinement rather than a campfire
- Anyone curious about authentic Emirati perfumery — this is our culture's signature ritual, interpreted by the people who live it
- Fans of warm, meditative scents for evenings, cooler weather, and moments of calm
Like all our creations, it's entirely unisex — bakhoor has perfumed Emirati men and women alike for centuries.
How to Wear It
As an extrait de parfum, Bakhoor Bliss asks for restraint: two sprays on pulse points is enough for 8+ hours of presence. It blooms beautifully in air-conditioned interiors and cool evening air — and like true bakhoor, it leaves its most beautiful trace on fabric, so a single spray on a scarf or coat collar will greet you for days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Bakhoor Bliss the same as burning bakhoor?
It's the wearable interpretation — the atmosphere of the ritual composed as a skin scent, with no actual burning required.
How long does Bakhoor Bliss last?
As an extrait de parfum, expect 8–12 hours on skin and noticeably longer on clothing.
Is it too smoky for someone new to incense fragrances?
No — the lily and cashmere woods round the smoke into something soft and welcoming. It's intense in quality, not in volume.
Does it contain real agarwood?
Yes — agarwood sits at the heart of the composition, alongside olibanum, which is what gives the fragrance its authentic incense character. Learn more in our complete guide to oud.
